Before you update your device software

Protect your data by taking a few simple steps before you update your device software.

To make sure your update goes smoothly and you don’t lose any information or personalised settings, take these steps before you update your device software.

  • Back up your device. You will be prompted to do this by the install wizard. For more information see Back up and restore your information
  • Make sure your device’s battery is fully charged and that you have a SIM card in the device.
  • Connect your device via USB cable. If your device asks you which mode you would like to use to connect, select PC Suite.
  • If your device’s memory card is encrypted, decrypt it. If you do not decrypt the memory card you won’t be able to access it after updating your device software. Check your device’s user manual for instructions on how to encrypt and decrypt memory cards.
