  • How do I access and change the cellular network settings on my Nokia device?

Select one of the following (depending on your device model)

  • Menu > Tools > Settings > Phone > Network (e.g. E51, E71, E90, N95, N96)
  • Menu > Tools > Settings > Network (e.g. E65, N77, N93)

  • Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Network (e.g. 5800xm, N97, 5230, 5530xm)
  • Menu > Settings > Config. > Network (e.g. N75)

 The following settings are displayed:

  • Network mode (shown only if supported by the network service provider): Select which network to use. If you select Dual mode, the device uses the GSM or UMTS network automatically, according to the network parameters and the roaming agreements between the network service providers. If needed, contact your service provider for more details.
  • Operator selection: Select Automatic to set the device to search for and select one of the available networks, or Manual to manually select the network from a list of networks. If the connection to the manually selected network is lost, the device sounds an error tone and asks you to reselect a network. The selected network must have a roaming agreement with your home cellular network, that is, the network service provider whose SIM card is in your device.

Glossary: A roaming agreement is an agreement between two or more network service providers to enable the users of one service provider to use the services of other service providers.

  • Cell info display: Select On or Off to activate or deactivate cell info reception.

  • How do I add new words to the predictive text dictionary on my Nokia device?

When using predictive text input, if a question mark (?) is shown after the word you entered, the word you intended to write is not in the dictionary. To add the word to the dictionary, select Spell, enter the word and save it.

Note: You cannot manually delete words that were added to your dictionary. When the dictionary is full, the most recent addition replaces the first.

  • Will my Nokia device become locked permanently if I enter the wrong lock code too many times?

No. The amount of consecutive incorrect lock codes is not limited and you cannot lock your Nokia device permanently by entering wrong lock codes. However, if you enter the wrong lock code for 5 consecutive times, the device is locked for 5 minutes during which time it doesn't accept any codes, not even the correct one.

Note that some applications may add security measures of their own if an incorrect lock code is given too many times. For example with Mail for Exchange the administrator can define that all the data in the device is deleted when a maximum number of lock code retries is reached. The device may show in this situation the following warning message:

Incorrect lock code. One attempt left before data is deleted.

If a wrong lock code is still given after the above warning, the device is reset and all the user data is wiped out.

To activate Offline profile, select Menu > Tools (or Settings or Ctrl. panel) > Profiles > Offline.

However, this only disables the GSM or UMTS network and still allows a Bluetooth and WLAN connection. Your device may still emit unwanted signals when turned to Offline profile.
